The narrow site, previously the side garden of the adjacent house, slopes away from the existing road access towards a stand of trees. The 3 bed house of 170 sq ms is located to face the trees and to create the necessary external space for access, parking and gardens. The new building is generally single storey with a 2 storey split level section cut into the slope of the site. There are 2 bedrooms at the lower level; the entrance and open plan kitchen dining and living room are at ground level and a bedroom/bathroom is located at first floor level.
Brick walls forms the main volume of the house with a large chimney located at the entrance. Opaque glazing disguises the upper level bedroom. A light-well is incorporated into the brick volume to allow a high level window to the kitchen and full height window to the upper bedroom. At ground floor level, openings are a combination of solid hardwood timber panels/ windows and full height glazed panels.
