The building is a simple single-storey block set amongst the trees and enclosed by steel railings providing a forecourt for teams to gather before and after games. The changing rooms are entered from the forecourt at the front of building and are arranged in a simple layout ensuring ease of access and use. The building construction is concrete block with a sloping sedum/grass roof. Internally each changing room has a tiled shower area and birch ply benches and ceilings to the changing area. Services for the building are arranged centrally, designed to be economic and easily maintained. The grass/sedum roof responds to the buildings natural setting. Similarly the pattern of the surrounding railings is in sympathy with the natural vertical rhythm of the surrounding trees.

The client highlighted ongoing issues regarding security and vandalism to facilities in the park and requested appropriate measures to be taken in the construction of the new building. The architects decided early on to incorporate these measures into the architectural design. The results are;
• The particular design of ‘security’ railings that both defines the ‘look’ of the building while providing additional external space to the front of the changing rooms.
• The gently sloping roof allowed for extensive high level glass block glazing to the rear of the building, addressing security and vandalism concerns while providing substantial natural light to the individual changing rooms.
